Open University Training Database
- Minimizes administrative costs by using web services technology to match resources
- Improves efficiency by ensuring participants are allocated to the correct resources
OCC developed a database system that would meet the needs of trainees, co-ordinators, supervisors and trainers. We were chosen because of our many year's experience in developing complex database systems.
The objectives of the training database is to match students, courses, rooms and tutors and to make effective use of available resources.
Phases of development
In phase one we developed the core system which gave a minimum working system but had its structure in place with 'hooks' to allow the next phase to develop without constraint. Phase 2 introduced enhancements to the core system.
Organisation of database
The database contains information on the following:
- courses and course requests
- staff and students
- university departments
- rooms available and their allocation
- time slots
- classes
- participant status
The database system has full planning and reporting capacity, for example: plan and record class schedules, allocate rooms, generate timetables and allocate staff to classes and rooms.
