Inventory Management Database
- Decreases stock purchasing costs by using optimization techniques to manage buying strategies
- Reduces "time to order" by providing stock information via the Web
Inventory management and ordering can be a minefield. OCC's
database for Plus Design has proved that it need not be! The trick
was to spot a savings opportunity when it presented itself.
The OCC-designed database enabled our client to spot a great
savings opportunity for its bulk buying of supplies and then pass
on cost savings to its customers. Maximizing resources is a common
theme of OCC's database development work.
Cost savings enabled
The database application enables cost efficiencies and is
estimated to be saving the Plus Design company an average of 20% on
all stock purchases carried out.
An example of what is possible for Plus Design, using OCC's
database, is when a 40% reduction in unit cost was possible on the
purchase of 39 electrical motors by ordering 6 additional motors
from one supplier's catalogue. The components' supplier was
offering significant discounts on bulk purchase for a limited
period only.
Features of the application
- uses an optimization algorithm, together with suppliers' price information, to optimise stock purchases
- allows stock requirements to build up in order to support bulk buying
- the ordering process can be initiated at any time; it constructs orders based on the accumulated parts requirements
- web-enabled, allowing remote stock management
- the software uses MS Access to generate a wide range of reports
