Heart Foundation Health Monitoring

  • Makes better use of medical experts by using flexible algorithms to identify available specialists
  • Reduces costs of data management using Web Services to exchange data automatically between partner organizations

Our work for the British Heart Foundation's (BHF) Heartsave forms part of the BHF's overall project for applying evidence for the secondary prevention of coronary heart disease (CHD). The BHF were able to draw on our expertise in building databases to serve the medical profession.

Key functions of the Heartsave Project database:

  • reference library on all main topics related to secondary prevention of CHD
  • list of specialists in a variety of heart disease-related fields.

The database contributes specifically to two aspects of the BHF’s post-heart attack prevention work:

  • maintains up-to-date details of all experts in a particular field
    descriptions of their expertise
  • has the ability to use free-text search techniques to search large and unstructured text and memo fields for particular medical terms or phrases.

OCC built a well-structured database for the BHF providing easy and reliable access to this type of data which is fundamental to their work in matching people to tasks.
