ABC is a market leader in the distribution of literature to UK travel agents. Their key strength has been the company's ability to provide a complete service, from initial brief through to implementation and delivery supporting on-line client access to their information system.

With over 250 clients in the travel and tourism industry, ABC handles some 200 million items annually. Using Transman Distributor, their in-house carrier network, ABC operates from 10 distribution centres in the UK.

OCC Brief

• Redesign the existing management information programme to co-ordinate and control all aspects of the Transman delivery process, replicating the existing user interface as much as possible to maximise efficiency, facilitate the rollout of the new system and minimise training requirements.
• Create an online ordering system, called BrochureNet to enable travel agents to search easily for and order brochures relevant to specific holidays.

Data variables such as volumes and tonnage by van route were analysed. For example, by changing the drop order of recipients along a route in response to traffic conditions, by moving parcels to different routes or on different dates, delivery times could be dramatically improved.

This extra degree of control built into the database, ensured that ABC maintained their unique position of always being able to deal effectively with the seasonal variations of the travel and tourism industry. The new system also allowed authorised users to check on the status of a group of parcels and also allowed third-party clients to enter details of parcels to be delivered to their customers by Transman.
